Our Mission | Our Vision | What We Have | Our Future
The Wadi Vision
The Wadi Environmental Science Centre was founded by Lynn and Tony Freiji of the Wadi
Holdings Corporation, a major agro-industrial company in the Middle East. Wadi Foods,
a division of Wadi Holdings, was one of the first companies in the Arab World to design
and implement eco-friendly bio-filtration technologies. This ensured that no waste
products from their farms or factories ever entered the environment. This "friendly
neighbor" policy won them the recognition of Lebanon's famous "Environment and
Development Magazine" (Al-Bi'a Wal Tanmiya).
Wadi Foods were pioneers in pollution control in the Middle East. They were the first to implement energy- and cost-saving, environmentally-friendly, evaporative cooling technologies for maintaining the health and well-being of live poultry. They also manufacture their own solar heating units, which are provided to hundreds of their employees and their families. Wadi Foods has been lauded throughout the Arab World for its policy of providing training, education, and advancement opportunities without discrimination. This gives hope and dignity to all who work in their operations.
At the dawn of the new millennium, the Wadi Vision of social and environmental justice was
extended to the public sphere with the creation of the Wadi Environmental Science Centre.
The Centre is a place where students, teachers, professionals, and visitors from all walks
of life can discover an holistic vision of Sustainable Industrial Agro-Ecology. In this vision,
applied science and technology offer a chance for happiness, prosperity, and economic and
social development in harmony with our natural environment.
As a business with a vested interest in social and ecological responsibility, Wadi Holdings has made possible a school and field centre that does more than simply talk about sustainability. The Wadi Environmental Science Centre demonstrates cutting edge techniques and technologies in educational reform, science and language teaching methodologies, and innovative research and development for field applications of appropriate technology.
Our ultimate vision is to transition to a living, working, community: an example of environmentally and socially conscientious living for the 21st century. Visitors who have come to see the glories of ancient Egypt can visit the Wadi Environmental Science Centre to see a glorious future Egypt taking shape in the desert. Better still, they can take home ideas with which to better the entire world.
